Inspired
by the sensual lines of the ancient
solar barques, the Nile Pharaoh
pays tribute to Hathor, quintessential
Egyptian goddess of joy, dance,
love and song, and protectress of
Horus, the Falcon-headed One. Figurehead
of the Golden Pharaoh, Horus was
last of the great gods to reign
as Pharaoh in Egypt and is renowned
for having valiantly avenged his
father's death in a cosmic battle
with Seth and for bringing light
back to the earth. Commemorated
at Edfu, he receives Hathor once
a year in the fabled "Beautiful
Reunion", their conjugal union
symbolizing new life, fertility
and regeneration. |
